Film Production A/B: This course introduces the study and practice of broadcast media (television, film, and the internet), as well as learning how to tell stories in many different forms: online, podcasts, and broadcast. This course includes technical instruction and support in writing, editing news script, video editing, camera operations, and news show production along with school and community showcase production. In the classroom, in addition to lectures, presentations, and discussions, students write and edit copy. Outside the classroom, students interview people for stories, attend school/ local community meetings, and cover openings of major Greater Los Angeles events. Ultimately students will develop advanced levels of both media literacy as well as production skills through developing reading habits that keep them aware of current affairs: local, national and world, through learning to understand story structure and elements of news shows, and through mastering field reporting techniques, video camera operation, editing, and production techniques. Students culminate with researching and producing online portfolios for broadcast news internships, college course admissions and media job interviews.
